In 2017 I created The Annual Gracia Girls Scholarship in honor of my aunts: nine sisters who exemplify the meaning of family, love, and selfless giving. Anna Louisa, Arlene, Rosa Maria, Hilda Luz, Martha Elena, Nidia Clotilde, Claudia Patricia, Marycruz, and Sylvia Gracia are nine of eleven siblings. The nine sisters have amazing stories of selflessly giving to their families and to others, despite not always having enough resources to take care of themselves. Throughout time, the Gracia girls have helped their significant others, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews through any hurdles they may encounter. The Gracia girls not only help their family members, but also help their friends and others in their communities. They remain pillars of grace, humility, joy, and selflessness. In essence, the Gracia girls continuously remind us of what it means to be a family, and what it means to truly and selflessly give yourself to others. This scholarship targets high school seniors that are committed to helping others in any way, shape, or form.
Although they are no longer with us, we continue to honor the Gracia Girls who have gone on to heaven: Martha Elena (1956-2006) Rosa Maria (1950-2017) Please contact me at [email protected] for more information regarding the Gracia Girls Scholarship.
